Influenced by Debussy’s painting of ethereal soundscapes, Rhapsody for alto saxophone and piano attempts to portray exoticism through the use of synthetic modes. It explores the full range of both the piano and saxophone in order to achieve a wide variety of moods. From the beginning, with a note on the saxophone produced out of nothingness, we are set in a meditative dreamlike world that will continue to expand throughout the piece.
It was premiered in the Spring 2017 MSM Student Composition Recital.
This work was featured in the Spring 2017 MSM Honors Recital as well as the LoneStar-CyFair Contemporary Music Festival in February 2018.
